Initially I signed up for boot camp to support my daughter – she’d gained the “freshman 10″ in her first year of university and was looking for some motivation. When she mentioned joining a boot camp I confess I did an internal eye-roll even while agreeing to go with her. I figured I was a little past needing a boot camp scenario to boost my own fitness; with 10 marathons, several years of triathlon (including Ironman Canada), and 5 years of expedition racing (events from 36 hours to 10 days in duration) under my belt I didn’t think there was much else I could be taught on how to be physically fit. However, “mom-duties” prevailed and we arrived at our first boot camp in April – her expecting a modest weight-loss and increased fitness ability, me expecting an hour out of my day that I’d never get back. The hour went by quickly – Michelle’s workout was expertly crafted and really, REALLY fun! She challenged every level of fitness that was there – mine included. My daughter and I woke up the next day to the pleasant ache of a good workout and we were both looking forward to the next session. We enjoyed our first 6 weeks so much that we signed up for another 6 and the gains for both of us were remarkable. My daughter lost 12 pounds and 12 inches, and I gained 4 pounds and 4 inches of some pretty solid muscle. I finished my 3rd boot camp session this very morning and I leave in 2 days for TransRockies (a 7 day bike race through the Rocky Mountains), where the strength gains from Michelle’s killer workouts will be put to good use. I always thought boot camps were just for helping people get off the couch and into a healthier lifestyle, but Survivor has proven they can go way beyond that and challenge accomplished athletes as well. Thanks Michelle, for helping me prepare for TransRockies – Bring it. Marlene Hogarth – Calgary AB

I recently graduated from York University and the only two things I received from the four years attending York was 1. A bachelor of arts degree 2. An extra 20lbs! Being a student and working part time took a toll on my mind, body and soul. I was miserable and depressed the majority of the time because I was not happy with my appearance and my overall health. I had become sluggish. Just walking up my stairs induced heavy sweats and breathing! I used to be physically active as a child and as a teenager so this was quite depressing! One Day I made a personal decision that I had to get back into shape. I first joined a gym and signed up for a 1yr contract. I never went! I knew it was going to take a lot of persuading and motivation in order to get back into the swing of things and I thought what about a bootcamp style fitness program and sure enough Survivor Bootcamp was the first one that popped up on my search engine! I signed up in July for a month just to see if I would like it and I have stopped. Since July I have lost 15 lbs and now, I have more self-esteem and I feel happier with life in general! Survivor Bootcamp is not just about weight loss, it is about getting to know other people within your community and building new relationships, sharing ideas and knowledge.Survivor Bootcamp is not just about exercising but about eating healthy too! Survivor Bootcamp literally kicked my butt into a whole new life style which only provides positive results! Overall, I would recommend Survivor Bootcamp to anyone who wants to be fit, healthy and happy whether you are young or old, female or male. Andrea Sousa

I am 45 years old now, and in the past, I used to work out quite regularly, but fell off my program a few years ago. During this time, I had gained weight (about 30 pounds), lost muscle tone and become quite flabby. I also struggle with a musculoskeletal condition, so being out of shape was not helping the overall pain and fatigue issues that are symptoms of it. The boot camp environment was motivating me to do my personal best, to not get discouraged and to keep committed to the process. Within 3 weeks, I was feeling much better, had lost noticeable weight (inches) and was psyched to keep going. At that point I registered for a second month of boot camp! After the first month, I saw considerable improvements to my shape, and fitness level. People around me were mentioning how good I was looking too! It was so encouraging!! After the second month of boot camp, I had trimmed down, firmed up and felt motivated to keep on exercising. As of finishing boot camp, I’ve been exercising an average of 3 times per week, mostly running, but some weight-bearing exercises as well. What contributed to my success, was signing up for this amazing program and the great assortment of exercises that were coached to us by a fun and motivating leader. I committed to the 6AM class and went every day for two months! I did not miss one class and was always on time! It was very hard for me at the beginning, but after the 3rd week, I found my body was starting to cooperate, as it was remembering when it used to work out before. I plan to work on my own fitness program for as long as I can, and will be signing up for additional boot camp classes in order to get a benchmark of my fitness level and to challenge myself to do better! – Chris, Vancouver, BC.
